Casa Havaneza celebrated its 160th Anniversary in Lisbon, Portugal
Casa Havaneza, the oldest cigar shop in Portugal, and one of the oldest and most emblematic in the world, celebrated its 160th anniversary on April 19th at Montes Claros Space – Lisbon Secret Spot in Lisbon.
The first Casa Havaneza shop was founded in 1864 by the banker Henry Burnay, and became a reference and meeting place for Habano aficionados and intellectuals such as Eça de Queiroz, Ramalho Ortigão and Fernando Pessoa. Casa Havaneza, was listed in 2018 as a historic shop and a Monument of Public Interest. Empor S.A., exclusive distributor of Habanos in Portugal, has four Casas Havanezas, three of them in the city of Lisbon and one in the city of Porto.
To celebrate this great anniversary, Empor S.A. organised a dinner, attended by customers and friends, faithful to Habanos and Casa Havaneza, who have chosen this “Casa” as their favourite place to share, enjoy the best Habanos and other luxury items. Also present were the Co-Presidents of Habanos, S.A., Mrs. Maritza Carrillo and Mr. Luis Sánchez – Harguindey, who together with the General Director of Empor S.A., Mr. Pedro Rocha, addressed the attendees, thanking them for their loyalty to Cuban tobacco and Casa Havaneza throughout all these years.
The evening started with a Welcome cocktail, where around 120 attendees had the opportunity to taste cocktails made with Sandeman Port Wines and Diplomático Rum, as well as Codorníu Ars Collecta blanc de blancs Cava, which paired perfectly with Habanos very appreciated by aficionados; El Rey Del Mundo Templarios, Edición Regional de Portugal de 2021 (54 x 120 mm long), of mild to medium strength, and Romeo y Julieta Hidalgos (57 x 125 mm long), from the Línea de Oro, the most Premium within the Romeo y Julieta brand and characterised by its medium to strong strength.
The dinner took place in a very pleasant atmosphere, full of joy, entertained by a saxophonist and a Cuban musical group.
To accompany the menu, the wines Quinta dos Carvalhais Rosé, Quinta de Azevedo Lourevedo Loureiro Escolha 2022 and Casa Ferreirinha Castas Escondidas were specially selected for this occasion.
The dinner ended with the traditional cutting of the Anniversary Cake and an emotional toast with Champagne Taittinger Brut Reserve, in honour of the 160 years of Casa Havaneza and wishing success and prosperity to all its team, who bet every day to make Casa Havaneza a place of excellence dedicated to epicurism.
